How Flower essences could lighten your emotional load
When you feel tired all the time, you can feel miserable as struggling to get through everything life throws at you is a challenge. Everything can feel an effort and sometimes you just feel like not bothering. Your temper can shorten, and you notice yourself snapping that little bit more and being grouchy.
Your emotions are up and down, more volatile than they used to be; moving from being happy to critical to irritated and miserable all in the space of half an hour.
It’s not pleasant for you, and always a bed of roses for those you care about too.
Your intuition is telling you that feeling like this is not helping you and you may be wondering what you can do to feel more balanced emotionally.
This is where flower essences may be able to help. They work on a subtle vibrational level, and I have found them a wonderful way to help me to feel more balanced emotionally when life is proving to be a challenge and I have witnessed positive results in my clients too.
In this blog post I will explore how flower essences may be able help you let go of unhelpful emotions in a subtle and safe way. So, if you are up for a journey to get more in tune with your higher self and your emotions, and perhaps gain a deeper understanding of the emotions that could be weighing you down, please read on.
We all have a travel suitcase filled with emotional baggage
Your emotional experiences will have led you to be the person you are today. Some will have been really positive like the love you experienced from parents and family or praise from a teacher, but you will probably have had negative experiences too, perhaps at school, being compared unfavourably with siblings or not reaching standards expected of you. You may not have felt loved or safe at home or in another environment. The list can go on.
These childhood experiences and those that you may have faced later in life may have led you to hold onto these emotions and subconsciously believe they are true. They can become negative beliefs and feed the inner critic that is in all of us.
These thoughts can drag you down physically as well as emotionally so removing unhelpful emotions from your suitcase may be just what you need to release these burdens and wake up to a new freer and more energised you.
Finally feeling free again ….
If you are anything like me, I just lived with these thoughts and negative beliefs in my subconscious for years until I started my mindfulness and meditation journey and these negative thoughts about myself started to unfold.
Then the penny finally dropped, and I realised that these thoughts and fears were unconsciously dragging me down and causing me to feel tired.
It was time to do the work.
Going into the stillness of a meditation or mindfulness practice helped me to discover what emotions and worries were bubbling under the surface and could be faced with courage. Flower remedies were a huge support as they seemed to work in tandem with the emotional work by allowing the positive emotions to shine through.
It was a game changing transformation…
The thing about flower remedies is that the changes they make are subtle. It’s not like you wake up in the morning and you feel completely different.
But and it’s a big but, overtime you may start to see the change.
How the remedies worked for me
For me I gradually started to notice that feelings of fear were countered by experiencing more courage, the sensations of impatience were dimmed to allow feelings of calm and balance to shine through; feeling like having to go on and not give in were softened to acknowledge that we all have limitations, and we can’t do everything.
This was a game changer for me, and that’s why flower remedies are now a key part of my fatigue recovery toolkit.
These may not be the emotions that are contributing to your fatigue, but there are remedies for other emotions such as guilt, worry for others, being self critical, to name just a few, that can drag you down emotionally and leave you depleted of energy.
3 of the emotions flower essences could help to soothe
Here are just a small selection of the flower remedies that worked for me and I know use with some of my clients.
If you are a worrier and get plagued by circulating thoughts that won’t seem to go away, the white chestnut essence may prove helpful. I have found that it can help some busy people who struggle to get to sleep because they can’t switch off.
If you are a perfectionist or someone who is constantly on the go all the time, and the stress of all this activity may be one of the reasons you feel so tired, the Bach flower essence Vervain may be able to help you to wind down and relax.
Are you may be someone who likes things done in a hurry and can get quite impatient if things are a little slow, the Impatiens remedy could help you to slow down a little and enjoy life more and potentially calm down your stress hormones.
These are just a selection of the flower remedies that may be able to help with the emotions that could be weighing you down and contributing to your fatigue.
Re-discovering your emotional balance.
I know that you can different emotions in one day, and flower remedies can help with that, as that they can be combined and tailored to suit how you are feeling and your circumstances. By understanding how my client is feeling emotionally about their life, work, job and family, I can put together a combination of essences that may help their emotional wellbeing to be used alongside the herbal medicine and diet modifications that may support their physical and mental health.
I believe that helping emotional wellbeing may be able to support your recovery from fatigue or another condition.
Supporting you alongside your treatment – whatever it is
What is so great about the essences is that they are considered safe to use, with no side effects and can be used safely alongside any other therapy you may be having too, like herbal medicine, nutritional therapy or conventional medication as they don’t interfere with supplements or medications. They may be helpful to use if you are working with a talking therapist, but I would always recommend discussing it with them first.

Telling yourself “I am energised”
Some naturopaths encourage using affirmations alongside the flower essences as these could further help to re-programme the subconscious mind on your intentions and goals, for example, “I, Melisa am increasing in vitality and energy.”
So, how do they work?
Flower essences work on the body’s natural energy frequencies, helping to bring balance. They also can help you to …
Be more in touch with who you are
Flower remedies can help us to tune into our higher selves and know who we are, what we need in life and help us to open to love, courage, self belief and confidence.
You may be thinking this is woo woo.
But we all have an inner knowing, that gut instinct, knowing instinctively when something doesn’t seem right or perhaps having a sense that something has gone wrong. This is being in touch with our higher self and flower essences can help us to bring the positive and good vibrations and feelings into our lives and help to banish the negative.
Do they work?
Big question and one you are probably asking. Whilst there has been limited scientific testing, the Bach flower essences have been used for over a century and you can find them at airports, chemists, health food shops and even some supermarkets, which logically says there must be something in it!
There has been some testing and a randomized clinical trial in 2020 with teachers found that the Bach flower essences proved to be effective in the care of teachers' stress.
Another research trial in 2022 used 4 Bach flower remedies in an adult health care setting and found that they helped to reduce anxiety, depression, fear and pain.
