5 reasons why a retreat could recharge your energy levels this summer

Chill out, relax and re-discover your mojo again on retreat

Modern living can leave you feeling depleted of energy and enthusiasm for life. You are trying to keep up with social media, work is constantly busy, you always seem to be on your phone and you may have family commitments or friends who rely on you. You may enjoy outdoor living and love all the activities summer offers you, yet you are struggling to find the energy and enthusiasm to take part. In fact, you may be feeling like your mojo for life has taken a summer vacation. You have found that in order to switch off from all your commitments, you find yourself automatically turning to a boxset to lose yourself in, but you really do love outdoor living and feel a bit sad and worn out by the idea of summer, instead of enjoying it like you are ‘supposed’ to.

You instinctively know that this is a merry go round that you need to get off. You have realised that you need some time for you, just you, to relax, switch off and give yourself some self-love and show yourself some self-care.

In this blog you are going to discover how a retreat may be just what you need to boost your vitality and start to feel a little more like the old you again.

Take a deep breath and relax …

A retreat is time for you to switch off and unwind. There’s lots of different ways you can do this. And I am going to share with you my top 5 ways I love to retreat and why.

  1. It’s taking time for you ...

How many times have you said, “I really must look after myself better”?

When we are busy, it is easy to put our own needs to one side. There’s work, looking after loved ones, housework and shopping, perhaps the garden, the list could go on and on …..

Perhaps treat yourself like your car. To ensure that your car starts and can get you from A to B when you need it to, you ensure it has a service and its MOT. You could view yourself like your car, for you to be able to show up and do all the things you need to do, you need to take time for you, your service so to speak.

Taking time out for you isn’t selfish

Yes, I know we can sometimes feel guilty about taking time out for ourselves, but I think it is vital. If we are on top form it puts us in the best place to support those around us. I look at it as an investment in ME.

Taking time out to reflect, read, sleep, meditate and eat lovely nourishing food can be really restorative. It may give you the time to allow your body to re-set and help you to feel calmer and more connected to who you are.

2. Re-discover your vitality and your creative spark

Constant striving to do our best at work and at home can zap our energy and leave us feeling a little jaded. Taking time for you, getting away from ‘must dos’, taking a break from everyday tasks and pressure can help you to relax and feel you have space. Space to think, to just be and free to do nothing if you want to – you can give yourself permission to relax!

When you feel relaxed, this is where your creative mind knows it has the space to think and imagine all the possibilities, whether it be writing, crafting, drawing or baking, it’s your choice.

Think yoga nidra

I think Yoga nidra is a great way to relax and allow creativity to flow. Journaling after a yoga nidra practice can be really productive, as your mind is more relaxed and ideas can flow! It’s a great tool if you are tired and stuck, where ideas just won’t come!

3. Calm the anxious mind

When you are tired, you can feel more anxious and perhaps even overwhelmed as you may feel you just don’t have the energy to do things or it is a struggle. You may just push on.

Doing what nourishes you

A retreat give you the opportunity to do things that could reduce your anxiety – spend time in nature (by the sea, in a wood or in a green space), meditate, do something creative like pick wild flowers or sketch, have time to sleep (the great restorer), take a relaxing stroll, eat nutritious food, have a relaxing bath, be mindful about the world around you. These are just a selection of ways a retreat could help you to feel calmer and more in tune with who you are.

4. A time to reflect …

Sometimes having time to pause, reflect and take stock of your life can be so important. Sometimes it’s so easy to get caught up in the doing that we don’t get chance to consider whether you are doing the right things for you. Are you in the right job? Are you mixing with people that really get you? What would it be good to change or have more of in life?

Reflection could help you to consider whether are you on the right path for you or perhaps confirm you are where you want and need to be in life right now.

Meditate and reflect

Meditation can help you with this reflection. It can give you insights, new ideas and possibilities that you mind is usually too busy to consider and could help you in leading a more fulfilled life, in tune with your personal values.

5. Catch up on the best restorer there is - your sleep

When you are busy, and your mind whirling with all the things you need to do, you may find that you have difficulty getting a good night’s sleep. Getting away from it all, taking time to chill out and pressing your internal re-set button, may help you to get to sleep quicker and perhaps sleep for longer.

Have I inspired you to take some time just for you?

I believe devoting some time for self care to support your physical and emotional wellbeing. However, you don’t need to go away to retreat, you can retreat at home or in the garden by taking some time for you to do the things you want to do and that will nurture you and enrich your life.

It’s all about giving yourself permission to devote some time to your wellbeing.

You could consider it an investment in you.

Will you take some time out just for you this summer?
