1.       A holistic approach in a bottle

Your experience of CFS will be different to mine, and your symptoms will likely have different triggers.

I, as a herbalist, combine different herbs into a herbal medicine, all in one bottle or packet, which will support the treatment of the underlying causes as well as the distressing symptoms. The dosage depends on the patient’s needs, but it is usually taken twice a day and herbal teas can be taken more often throughout the day.

You may be wondering how a herbalist is able to do that? Well …..

… Herbs are very clever – they are the original multi tasker!

2.       A single herb can often do more than just 1 thing!

Many herbs don’t just help with one symptom and the humble Rosemary, a native UK plant, often found in gardens and in pots, is a great example. Not only has research shown that Rosemary can help with digestion, it has also been found to be calming for anxiety.

You may have heard the saying Rosemary for Memory, well science has proved that its actually true and not an old wives tale.

As Rosemary stimulates blood flow to the brain, it has been shown to help with headaches, improve memory, concentration and reduce brain fog.

A fantastic herb for anyone who is experiencing these common chronic fatigue symptoms.

Rosemary is not alone here, so many herbs may be able to help with the different symptoms we experience.

This is one of the many reasons why herbs can be so useful to support an illness like CFS, which can have so many different symptoms and causes.

If you are someone who doesn’t like taking several supplement tablets a day, then a herbal medicine preparation (powder, tincture or tea) could be the right option for you.

3.       A proven track record ……

People have been using plants and herbs as medicine for thousands of years, combining them into bespoke preparations to support the patient’s recovery by treating both the underlying cause and the symptoms. Herbal medicine in the Indian Ayurvedic tradition has been used for over 4,000 years – quite a track record!

Many of the herbs I use have been scientifically tested to confirm their safety and traditional use.

So, what about herbs helping with chronic fatigue?

A great example of this is Ashwaganda, one of the most well known Ayurvedic herbs.

It has been used to support recovery from illness and help to restore stamina and vitality for centuries.

It’s scientific name is Withania somnifera, which gives us a clue of what it can help with – somnifera - sleep, which is often an issue in CFS.

It is one of the most scientifically studied herbs and the research shows that it can help with mood, reduce anxiety, increase physical performance and concentration and reduce fatigue.

4.       There’s a herb to help with every symptom for CFS

The plant world really is our friend when it comes to supporting recovery from chronic fatigue. There are several herbs that may help with all the symptoms and underlying causes of CFS. From infection and stress, through to anxiety, brain fog, sleep issues, aches and pains and the all-important energy production. Herbs can gradually help your body to get back to normal and allow you to start living your life to the full again.

As a medical herbalist, I take a holistic approach, looking beyond your CFS symptoms, so I can support you as a whole person and take into account all of your needs, both physical and emotional. I am able to select the most appropriate herbs that will suit both your constitution, symptoms and the underlying causes to your CFS, whilst ensuring there’s no conflict with any medication that is being taken.

As everyone is unique, your herbal prescription will be bespoke to you.

Starting your recovery journey using herbal medicine

You may be wondering how do I start my journey? Working as a herbalist and a naturopath, we will have a detailed consultation where we will undertake a comprehensive review of your health.

We will identify and address the underlying cause to your CFS as well as your symptoms with a herbal medicine preparation, nutritional changes, nutritional supplementation (if appropriate), plus recommendations and practices to support your mental and emotional health.

Following the consultation, you will receive a herbal medicine preparation (either a tincture – herbs distilled in alcohol or a herbal powder – depending on your preference) plus a restorative and calming herbal tea. These will contain the herbs to help alleviate your symptoms and address the underlying cause to your CFS.
